KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) โ Kalamazoo City Commissioners could formally launch their search for a new City Manager Monday evening.
Jim Ritsema announced his plans to retire over a month ago, and the city was waiting to get their new Human Resources Director James Henderson on board before beginning the replacement process.
Ritsema plans to stay on the job until November 2025, giving commissioners time to look for his successor.
If they follow past practice, the City Commission will first find a national executive headhunting firm that specializes in municipal postings. They may also appoint a sub-committee to screen candidates.
Itโs been said that hiring the City Manager, the person responsible for day-to-day operations, is the most important task the City Commission handles.
